In the reading section there are questions that ask about a quote that best fits with the theme (or something like that) and then the following question asks which quote from the passage best correlates to your answer.

Be sure to know how to do these problems while also understanding the formula and what each variable means. Although not as common as the ones mentioned in the previous bullet, it is still very useful to gain a brief understanding of the concept that will allow you to get these questions right. You are almost guaranteed to have two or three of these on the math section, knowing how to answer them is crucial. There are certain key topics I would focus. From what I've seen after taking the SAT a few times is that they recycle certain questions (with different numbers/wording). Khan academy is great, they offer free practice tests and a good study program. ACT questions are more straightforward but they give you less time per question. This is pretty easy to learn if you already know the material but not all students do it automatically. Also, the SAT math questions are a little trickier and require you to know the quick way to solve the problem (ie quickly elimating 2 answers instead of fully solving the problem). He is now using Khan and practice tests to improve his speed. My 2nd ds never forgets anything so the material is quite easy but pacing and reading quickly are not his strengths. His score was good but he knew right away that he could improve with just a little focused practice. His subscore for algebra was the lowest on his first SAT (went in cold with no review) while he aced the advanced math portions. My oldest ds had algebra I in 7th grade and geometry in 8th so some of that was pretty rusty by his junior year. However, practicing or refreshing the information can be very useful and is likely necessary for many students. Before each five minute session I would review these notes. I would take literal notes of my mistakes and the tips, hints, and tricks on what to look for/identify to save time during the exam. I would then go back and review my answers with the help of the solutions manual in the book. The math portion is sixty questions in sixty minutes and so when I practiced, I would set a timer for five minutes and complete five questions as quickly/accurately as I could. I struggled big time with math, so this is the section I really focused on. I would then practice a little every day. In order to prep, I bought two ACT test books at my local Barnes & Noble. However, this process could apply to SAT practice as well. While I took both the ACT and SAT, I personally liked the ACT format much better so my tips are focused on the ACT.
